Hi Runners!

It has been an interesting Fall – starting off with our Fall Classic on October 7th, and ending with our Santa Run and Pancakes Breakfast on Dec. 23rd. The Saturday Club runs have been well attended and our Social Runs a lot of fun! We’re certainly looking forward to 2007 and all the running that awaits!

The autumn provided us with unusually mild weather, which has made the running that much more enjoyable...but I think we’re ready for some good old fashioned cold and snow! Running in the snow at Ravenshoe provides a lot of fun and a great work out. We welcome Darryl back to the running ranks after a long recovery following a broken foot last spring. Now that he’s back for the winter running, don’t let him get in front, as he loves to twap the snow laden branches so it lands squarely on the person behind!!  Snow aside, remember to keep your “twapping distance” when group running. It’s always fun until someone gets it in the eye! Hopefully Santa provided you all with some nice winter running gear and you’ll be able to enjoy this next season to the max!

We also welcome Roland Geerders to the GRC team! Roland will be running the GRC as of January 1st  while I am off, so watch for his Newsletters and updates! And thanks to Charlene Gunn for helping to keeping things moving Nov – Dec.!!

Watch in January for the 2007 dates of GRC events and the new 5Peaks Race schedule. Mark your calendars accordingly and get ready to enjoy another great year of trails, challenge, and comradery!

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

September 19 2006

Hi Runners!!

Happy September! It’s that most wonderful time of the year yet again! …Wonderful cool long runs, warm sunshine and beautiful fall colours already beginning to show their stuff. Fall promises some of the best running weather of the season and you can enjoy the best of the bush without the best of the bugs!

The GRC Jack Rabbits have been low in numbers at the Ravenshoe Forest for the regular Saturday club runs. Actually, rumour has it, that there were some Saturdays when there was no one there at all. Well – not to worry. The Jack Rabbits were very busy, bounding through forests and around lakes at respective cottages, and they showed up in full force, at every 5Peaks race of the season, gracing the podium each time with a placement in their age categories. View the photo page to see how good looking they are in their orange shirts, adorned with medals. View the race page to see their times and placements! Special mention to Karen Harvey for doing such a great job on the photography!! And to Anthony Woodruff from 'SKIPWEB.com'  for diligently and faithfully updating/hosting our website!!

Saturday October 7th hosts our GRC ANNUAL FALL CLASSIC FUN RUN and it sounds like the SALTY DOGS will be joining us – so let’s make sure the Rabbits are out in full force to give them a good chase! Please RSVP to runGRC@rogers.com  just so we can have an idea regarding numbers – ‘Last Minuters’ are fine, we’re always prepared for extras. If you’ve never run with the Georgina Jack Rabbits, have only been out once or twice, or are looking to find out what this group is all about – this is your PERSONAL INVITATION! We’d love for you to join us and we promise you’ll feel welcomed.

Due to the fact that Kennedy Forest is overgrown with poison Ivy, this years Fall Classic will be held at our regular Rabbit hole – the Ravenshoe Forest. Run starts at 8:30am, with breakfast and the annual GRC awards at 9:30am. Bring your families. Bring your dogs. (We’ve got a new mascot that we’re excited to introduce!) If you’re not running, bring your bike or your hiking shoes.

As for the 2006 GRC awards – we’re waiting for your nominations for: MOST IMPROVED RUNNER, MR./MISS 5PEAKS, or any others that you would like to see recognized for whatever reason! (Like, say… Mr. Directionally Challenged, for example…) Send them ASAP to runGRC@rogers.com  Also, come with any good anecdotes regarding the runs and the races for our general entertainment!

In the mean time, most of the Rabbits are back to bounding through Ravenshoe for the regular Saturday runs: EVERY SATURDAY RAIN OR SHINE. Meet in the McCowan Rd parking lot, 8am sharp!

See you then!

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

July 7 2006

Hi Runners!

A full month without a computer and email has certainly left us a bit behind, but now that we’re up and running we’ll catch you up, pronto!

The 3BEARS Run was a great success – runners had a super time exploring some new tract, were challenged by Bears and enjoyed a delicious breakfast to follow. Thanks to all who contributed and participated…it was a super morning!

During this past week, thanks to the York Region Forestry Department, all of the Ravenshoe Forest trails have finally been completed with new signs at the head of each trail, and the maps at each parking lot repainted with the routes colour coded as per all the markings we did in the fall. They also gave us whole box of orange arrows to officially mark the “Jack Track”, which is now partially up and will be completed this week. So many, many thanks to all those Jack Rabbits who have been a part of this whole process and have given their time on several occasions to help mark trees, post arrows and take down old signs. Let’s all help to keep this forest and its tracks clean and up to date – as you’re running, or biking through please pick up any garbage you see, and report any mischief or damage. You can let me know, or report directly to Douglas Wells, our Area Forester.

The Jack Rabbits have had a super start to the race season, gracing the podium with a 2nd and a 3rd at Dundas Valley, two 2nd s at Rattlesnake Point, and a 2nd at the Toronto Mud Run. Way to go everyone!!! See ‘Race Results’ for all the details! Send your race results to rungrc@rogers.com so we can post them. July 8th is the next 5PEAKS race at Durham Regional Forest….sign up!!!

Coming up:
August 12th: Mono Cliffs
Sept. 9th: Albion Hills (a 25K run has been added here for all those who are looking forward to an extra challenge!)

Have a great month. See you on the trails!

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

May 25 2006

Hi Runners!

It's nearly the end of May and we have our Spring Run Off and the first of the 5Peaks series under our belt. The Run Off boasted a great turn out (see our Photo Gallery) and the 5PEAKS Dundas Valley boasted 3 Jack Rabbits on the podium for their age groups! Way to go!!
Next up is our Annual 3BEARS RUN (May 27th) and 5PEAKS Race #2 at Rattlesnake Point on June 10th (always a favorite!)
The 3BEARS replaces our regular Saturday Club run and is an opportunity to introduce runners to some great new track, and get a taste of what goes on at the Wednesday evening Power Run. Breakfast afterwards is potluck in the parking lot...we'll provide the coffee and the orange juice. RUN STARTS AT 9am - bring your families for a walk while the runners do the route.
Rattlesnake Point delivers some challenging and scenic terrain. This race is a 'must-do' of the series. We're looking forward to another great show from the Jack Rabbits and would like as many to come as possible. If you're not ready for the enduro course - sign up for the sport distance and get in on the fun!
Adding the Wednesday evening Power run to your running schedule will get you ready for the 5PEAKS challenge. It will strengthen your core, increase your run times, and make you master of the hills. That, and the company's good too!
Regardless of where you run and when, your recovery routine after a long run is crucial in order to enjoy consistent maximum performance. I've heard the groans and have seen the eyes roll when we talk about soaking your legs in cold! water immediately following a race or long training run. It may cause you to cringe at the thought - and cringe while stepping into the tub or taking the garden hose to you legs - but the way that it aids muscle recovery in undeniable! That and throwing in a swim the day after can do wonders. In the May/June edition of the RunningRoom magazine, John Stanton himself concurs in his insert on recovery tips. (page 24)
The Georgina Leisure Pool is open every morning from 6:30am - 9:00am for adult lane swim as is the NewMarket Pool. We go regularly Tuesday and Thursday mornings, throwing in an extra morning when needed, so feel free to meet us there!

If you've run other races, 1/2's or marathons - we'd love for you to send us your stats from each one so we can keep our Race Results page up to date. Tell us about the race and how you fared. We're interested to know and want to keep personal tabs on all our runners!!

So, here's to a great season...

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Maggie

April 5 2006

Hi Runners!

OK - it's time for all our Fairweather Runners to say 'goodbye'... Bid 'fairwell!' to your friends at the gym. 'Addios!' to your basement dwelling tredmill and 'Au revior!' to your soap opera pals who keep your mind off the workout. But don't be sad, because with every goodbye there's a 'Hello!' waiting on the other side. 'Hello!' to the spring weather. 'Good to see you!' to the forest and 'I missed you!' to those trail runners that still have last years memories caked onto the treads. Start your season, catch up with your old running buddies and be inspired once again by the comradery of the club runs.

SATURDAY APRIL 15TH
RAVENSHOE FOREST
8:30AM
BREAKFAST TO FOLLOW.

Bring your spouses. Bring your kids. Bring your dog. Bring your pot belly pig. We've given you an extra half hour to get everyone out the door.
While the runners run the rest of your clan will join the others for a hike and we'll all meet back for a continental breakfast in the parking lot. Run. Friends. Food. Coffee. Is there a better way to start the season? I think not!
There will even be a raffle prize....
Wear your GRC shirt for the 2006 season group photo....don't have a GRC shirt? Orders will be taken.

Come out. Be motivated. BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

See you there!

Monday March 27 2006

Hi Runners!

Spring is in the air. The trail conditions have been excellent - save a few icy spots - and we're gearing up for our Spring Run Off on Saturday April 15th.
There will be a run and breakfast to follow. What a great way to start to season!

This year, for the 5Peaks races, we've got group registration. This means that if you register as a GRC member, you get $5 off each race entry fee.
Groups must be registered by the Friday, 1 week prior to race day in order to qualify. Don't forget each team member still qualifies for all the great finisher souvenirs, all the Championship calculations, and all the other great prizes and incentives 5Peaks has to offer!
Just contact me via email, and I will send you the group registration password that you will need. The first race is Saturday May 13th @ Dundas Valley!

We are looking forward to starting our Wednesday Evening Power Runs on April 18th. The first few will be in Keswick until the conditions in Kennedy Forest are right. Still some snow and ice to be melted and, of course, we'll need to see where we're going! To start, we'll meet at West Park at 7:15pm.

And here's an encouraging tidbit from Charmaine:
Hi Everyone,
As most of you already know, I have become quite passionate about the sport of running since the birth of my second child (3 yrs ago). It has been a goal of mine to finish a half marathon (21 K or 13 miles) in less then 2 hours. I was very disappointed this past fall when I ran Angus Glen half marathon in 2h and 2minutes. Well, I am VERY pleased to announce that today, I finished the Chilly Half Marathon in Burlington in 1 hour 56 minutes and 20 seconds!!!!! I also placed 4th overall in my age group for woman 150 lbs + also known as the Clydsdale category.
I felt so great after I finished the race I even ran up the 12 flights of stairs to my hotel room!
I hope you all enjoying this great day as much as I am, and remember: .....dreams are made if people try" Terry Fox
Char

Thanks Charmaine for sending that in, and here's to all our runners for a great 2006 season!
See you on the trail!

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.
Maggie

Friday January 20 2006

Hi Runners!
Just a quick update on the trails.
I regret to inform you that the remaining arrows for the 'Jack Track' will not be posted. The ones that were posted last week have yet again been torn down. We are not sure who is continuing to do this dis-service, but the remainder of the track will not be marked until the spring when we can paint the arrows directly onto the trees as we have with the diamond markers.
All that to say, if you're not sure of the trails and the route, run with someone who is.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you get lost - enjoy the adventure and the extended run!
See you Saturday!
Maggie

Friday January 13 2006
Hi Runners!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and a good time bringing in the New Year! Thanks to Darryl for bringing the trailer and the BBQ to the Santa Run so we all could enjoy the pancake breakfast in the parking lot! The weather was great - not like the -30 we ate pancakes in last year! Thanks to Peter McEachern for the draw prize, and thanks to those who kept the runs going while some of us were away during the break.

The trails were slick this past Saturday...trail shoes are must and the need to tread carefully goes without saying. Watch your step and keep mindful of the ice! Ok, I said it anyway.
The Jack Track arrows that were down, have been replaced...save a few, so if you're in for a run and you're not 100percent sure of the trail, run with a buddy who is. I hope to have the rest up by next week...I was just a few short.

The runs are staying at 8am unless otherwise noted - nobody seems to want that extra 1/2 hour sleep-in time! It's good to run early - then we have the whole day ahead of us to do all the other things we'd like to accomplish on our weekends! Time with the family, time for chores, time to go skiing...!

I encourage you to balance your winter running with some time at the pool, and cross-country skiing. Hill training will start again in the spring...

I look forward to running with you on the trails...see you Saturday!

Maggie

Tuesday December 13 2005
Hi Runners!

It’s a wonderful winter wonderland out there – and if you haven’t been out to the trails because of the snow, you’re really missing out! The Ravenshoe Forest tract is well packed and might I add well marked, thanks to some Jack Rabbits armed with spray paint, templates, arrows, and hammers.

For those of you who aren’t aware, the GRC has been working throughout the fall with the York Regional Forestry Department to give the Brown Hill Tract a face lift, and a comprehensive trail marking system so any one can go, any time and still find their way out. There’s still some work to be done that will have to wait until the spring, (like the repainting of the large signs etc.) but it’s looking pretty good so far! So, grab your dog, put on those shoes and a pair of warm socks and get out there and enjoy the snow!! You’ll be glad you did!

Here’s how the new markings work:

Each individual trail is marked with different coloured diamonds that are painted onto the trees. (The only way our crazy friend can take those down, is if she cuts down the tree!) So, once on a trail, you just follow the diamonds until the trail ends. Each trail starts and ends on a main fire access road where the YRFD will put in direction signs to the main parking lots. (Yep, parking lots. They’ve added one on Ravenshoe Road to help ease the congestion at the McCowan lot.)

There is also a continuous biking, running, hiking tract, which is what we run most Saturdays. This is now called the ‘Jack Track’ and is marked by orange arrows. The arrows are only located at the beginning, end and at tricky forks on each trail, so you know which trail to follow next. Once you’re on the right trail, you just continue to follow the diamonds. All extra arrows and trail markings have been removed from the forest so that there is no more confusion, and so that the forest doesn’t look messy with a collection of signs and arrows all over the place.

Unfortunately, a few of the Jack Track arrows have already been vandalized. We are replacing them for the Santa Run, but after that things will be left until the spring, when those too, will be painted directly onto the trees.

Don’t forget the GRC ANNUAL SANTA RUN and PANCAKE BREAKFAST is this Saturday December 17th at 8:30am.

We are taking a collection for the GEORGINA FOOD BANK, so please come and be generous. The GRC would like to really bless those who depend on the Food Bank this year out of the abundance and blessings that we all are able to experience daily.

Bring your families, Santa hats, and Christmas spirit!

See you Saturday!!

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

Hi Runners!
What a beautiful Fall it's been so far - this cooler weather has made perfect running temperatures! I'm sure you have all been out there enjoying it as we have!!!
Thanks so much to everyone who came out and had fun at our GRC CLASSIC FUN RUN! It was a cold but sunny morning..the kids enjoyed their hike and the runners enjoyed some new trails. Lots of food and lots of laughs..all in all a great morning! (See pictures!)
Our Season Awards were given out ....
The MR./MISS 5PEAKS AWARD: Karen Harvey. Karen was the only GRC member to run every race in the 2005 series. The rest of us all missed at least one! Way to go, Karen!!!
The PODIUM AWARD: Lorinda Mundy & Dave Robertson. Lorinda and Dave are the first GRC members to have the honour of gracing the podiium at any of the 5peaks races. Lorinda placed 2nd in her age group for the 5K at Mono Cliffs, and Dave placed 2nd in his age group for the Enduro Course at Mono Cliffs. Way to go you two!!
The MOST IMPROVED RUNNER AWARD: was a tie and went to Charmaine Broughton & Tara Gilpin. Charmaine has been running up in the Muskoka's this summer as that is where she runs her business "Gourmet on the Lake". Muskokas = hills and when Charmaine returned, her speed and endurance noted significant improvement. Tara has been juggling parenthood, work, and wanting to start running again. She found it difficult to fit running in with the clubs' schedule, but persevered on her own, and ran the Port Perry 1/2 in 2:32:21. Way to go Tara and Charmaine - we're very proud of both of you!!!
The INJURY OF THE YEAR AWARD: James Pugh. James broke his leg skiing in February one weekend between our runs. This was not a 'clean' break but a twist and tear. He spent months in casts and wraps, has been undergoing extensive physio therapy and many frustrations to get out there again and resume running. James ran for the first time since the injury at our Fall Classic. We are happy to announce that he is back, and in fine form. We sure missed you on the trails, James, and are glad to enjoy your company again on the run!!
The DEDICATION and SUPPORT AWARD: Anthony Woodruff. Anthony has spent hours of time and energy supporting the GRC by manning this web sight, updating & posting information, and paying for our hosting. Amidst running his web business, and being a husband and father, he trained and raced the Ironman Canada in August. Tony finished with a 12:17:23 time! Thank you so much for all you give and Congratulations! on your accomplishment!
Special Thanks to:
Liquidation World who donated the Picnic Blanket, and the Running Headband Ear Warmer for our Draw Prizes and the Power Bars that were 'Give Aways'.
Zehrs who donated the muffins.
Tim Hortons for the dozen donuts.
Keswick Presbyterian Church for the use of their pop up tent shelter and folding tables.
Lorinda for the hours she gave to help mark the trails (in the cold and rain none the less!) and for her willingness to jump in any time, anywhere.
Everyone who helped pitch in for the food, who came and had fun, and made the morning such a success!!

COMING UP:
Saturday November 19th
The Salty Dog Trail Group from Toronto will be our guests for the morning run.
Let's show them a good time, and give them a taste of Jack Rabbit Track!

Saturday December 17th
GRC SANTA RUN
Ravenshoe Forest

Pancake Breakfast to follow!

Other News:
1. We're busy marking trails over the next couple of weeks at Ravenshoe Forest. Lots of trails and routes to mark...Want to help? Give Maggie a call. 905-476-4660.
2. The Monday Evening Road Run will start officially again in the spring. Due to the small turn out, we have been switching things up a bit just with the regulars to suit. So, in the mean time, if you want to run on a Monday night call Maggie, Darryl or Lorinda that day or the night before and they'll give you the when and where.
3. Important Question for our regular Saturday Runners!: Is 8:30am too late for you on a Saturday? Do you want to go back to the 8:00am time until the Santa Run in December? We'd love to hear from you, so we can tailor our run times to suit as many people as possible. Please give us your ideas and input. Afterall, this is your running club!!

Hi Runners!
Hope you've had a good few weeks! Tony is on holidays so you're getting the newsletter this way - I'll get him to post it on the web when he returns!
He is in BC with his family and competing in Ironman Canada, so we wish him the best and look forward to hearing all about it!
I had a super time in Holland with my daughter - lots of biking, running, touring and visiting with family. It was rainy and cold, however, and we were looking forward to enjoying some of the heat that has been torturing the rest of you here in Canada!
Thanks so much to Lorinda and Darryl who have been holding the fort while I was away. Many of the runs were switched to the mornings to avoid the worst of the heat and that sounds like it worked out well!
The Monday Evening Road Run (which ran in the morning..) is up to 15K and will continue to add in preparation for the Toronto Half. Tonight (*August 22nd) it goes back to 7pm.
It was great this past Saturday to be back in the forest with you all, and I might add that the weather was great and there were no bugs, so what has all the complaining been about??!!!!
Darryl is off for a bit with an injured calf, but Dave Robertson is back in fine form and ready to put on the miles. Loren has been off with a bike injury (10 stitches in her calf) but she is mending nicely and looking forward to joining us again soon.
I'm not sure yet whether this week's Wednesday Power Run will be morning (8am) or regular evening time (7pm) so best give a call Tuesday night if you're planning to come. Next week it will be back to evenings...
This Saturday is the 4th 5PEAKS race at Albion Hills - anyone wanting to carpool, just call - otherwise we'll see you there. Lorinda and I are going to try to check out the course this week. It's a new location so it should be an exciting route and a great race. Register Online: http://www.5peaks.com/register_login.asp?raceid=&prov=&cookie=processtest
Ravenshoe Run is as usual, 8am.
That's it for now!
Have a great week and enjoy the cooler days...

July 19, 2005

To date we've enjoyed some great runs and challenging races... we've run with the best of the bugs in the early morning, and dusky evening; we've run in the heat and in the humidity; we've run through prickly raspberry branches and trails laden with poison ivy; we've run with little water and tired dogs...but we've always run in good company and had a great time!...yep - and the season's only 1/2 way going! So chin up, keep a can of bug spray in your car, an extra bottle of water, a towel to dry off with when your done,  and come on out and enjoy the run - it really is a lot of fun!
Next up is the 4th race of the 5Peaks Series: Albion Hills. New course location so the route will be a fun surprise for everyone! Saturday August 27th.
MANSFIELD PICTURES are up, and there's a new lay out to our photo page. Just click on the pic of the series you want to see..and there they are. Thanks Tony for setting that up!

My daughter Melanie and I are off to Holland this Friday (July 22nd) and will be back the 17th of August - so Darryl and Bruce will be running the runs while we're gone.  This Wednesday (July 20th) I'll be doing the Power Run @ Kennedy at 7am if anyone wants to join me. June 20-2005

Six Jack Rabbits ran at the 5Peaks race at Rattlesnake Point, and six Jack Rabbits ran at the Ravenshoe Forest this past Saturday...and we're pleased to announce that all 12 runners survived the sweltering heat and heavy humidity! 5Peaks second place winner of the enduro run was not so lucky - he passed out in the arms of the Jack Rabbit's Support Team (our spouses and significant others!) and was carried off in an ambulance. He was dehydrated and a bit delirious..but came in with an impressive 1:02:11, running a 4:52/K pace. First place winner Kenneth McAlpine came in at 1:01:01, running a 4:46/K pace. Awesome! Although everyone's pace and time was considerably slower than last year (due to the climate conditions), it was an awesome run, with challenging and beautiful terrain. We are very proud of our Rabbits and their race performance!
For GRC Jack Rabbit race results go to http://www.georginarunningclub.com/race-results.php
Race day pics are also on our photo page.

The Newmarket Running Room is having a '20 MINUTE CHALLENGE' on Wednesday July 20th at 6:30pm. I'd really like for as many of us to participate as possible, wearing our Jack Rabbit shirts of course! We can run the 20 minutes and then extend the run afterwards (or really push for 20min!), either way it will be great to support the Running Room and get our club out there for publicity. Also - everyone that signs up on line gets a free hat and I've seen the hats! They are not only cool but they are our orange GRC colour! So let's sign up here: http://www.runningroom.com  When you get to the page go to 'events' and then 'event listings' and then '20 minute challenge'. There's a picture of the hat! oh yeah - and there's no registration fee. It's Free. I've already signed up - let's see how many GRC names we can get on that list!

Wednesday's Power Run was cancelled this week because of a severe weather warning, but it turned out to be one of the nicest evenings we've had for a run. No humidity, nice breeze and fairly bug free. Darryl and Lorinda hit Ravenshoe Forest for an hour, and we're hoping that you put on your running shoes and enjoyed an evening run too. (but ran close to home - just in case!)
This Saturday's Run goes rain or shine, so unless there's lightening we expect to see you out! This cooler weather should be a great motivator!

There's only 3 Saturdays and 3 Wednesdays until the next race (July 9th @ Mansfield) so don't miss! We're hoping to go with a larger group - we did  have 25 Jack Rabbit shirts printed and handed out, after all! To register now got to www.5peaks.com !

See you Saturday - and in the mean time:
BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

Hi Runners!

What a great day it was on Saturday at the 3BEARS FUN RUN! Some found the course a wee bit challenging, but all agreed it was a fantastic run and the scenery was definitely a big highlight! There were lots of great giveaways - including a $25 gift certificate from the RUNNING ROOM, free one week trail memberships from THE SUTTON GYM, and water bottle holders and power bars from LIQUIDATION WORLD. ZEHRS donated the fruit that made up the delicious platter, and WILLOW GREENS provided the bagels and cream cheese.
Everyone was pleased to get their new shirts and they looked really sharp on! All in all it was a wonderful morning, and once we located the missing spouses that went for a stroll with the children, it was near perfect!
Thanks to Jim for rabbitiing and to everyone who helped collect the trail markers afterwards. Charlene came with baby Piper and we gave her her first pair of running shoes - orange, of course, to match mommy's shirt.
See the pics on our photo page! Thanks Anthony for keeping this site so cool and up to date!!

Our first Wednesday evening POWER RUN had 5 runners to kick it off - we're looking forward to seeing the rest of you out in the near future! It's a wonderful prep for the 5PEAKS or just to strengthen your run. Next 5PEAKS is June 11 so sign up and come out so your ready to run! www.5peaks.com Remember we're running a carpool so let us know when your registered!

This Saturday we're back at Ravenshoe for our regular CLUB RUN at 8am, and tomorrow night is the Power Run at Kennedy. Now that you're all familiar with the forest (some saw more of it than others!) we expect you out! We'll have the shirts available for pick up at both runs this week, for those of you who didn't make it to the 3BEARS.

To all our running enthusiasts: BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

See you Saturday! You'll be glad you came!

Hi Runners!

First off - a huge wonderful congratulations to Charlene and the birth of PIPER ELIZABETH! Charlene had her beautiful healthy running baby on Monday evening...2 minutes before midnight! Here's a copy of the email she sent:

"I just wanted to let you know that I had the baby. Piper Elizabeth was born at 11:58pm on Monday May 23. She is 6lbs 13 oz. I had a great run on Saturday with Bruce and a short one on Monday morning which I'm sure helped things go so smoothly!!
If I am feeling well I may pop by with Piper on Saturday and walk a little in the forest (while everyone else enjoys the hills!!!) and have breakfast."

YIPPEE! For those of you who don't know Charlene - she and Piper have been running with us every Saturday...of course, Piper was inside and enjoying the ride - so now she'll get to see what all that weekly bouncing has been all about! We can't wait to meet you in person, Piper, and we want you to know that you're already a GRC Jack Rabbit. We'll spot you some ears until you figure out how to work those legs! See you Saturday!

WEDNESDAY EVENING POWER RUN starts this Wednesday (May 25th) at 7PM. Kennedy Forest Parking lot (see map: Club Runs).

The JACK RABBIT shirts (bring the $5 for tax if you haven't already) will be handed out this Saturday at the 3BEARS FUN RUN!
Remember that it is held at the Kennedy Forest at 9:00am, and it will be in place of our regular Saturday club run at Ravenshoe (8am).
We're looking forward to a great run, beautiful scenery, lots of fun, and a delicious breakfast to follow!
Remember: This is not a 'members only run' (actually, none of our runs are!) - it's open to anyone and everyone who wants to join us. It's a fun prep run for the 5Peaks series, a nice change of scenery for our reg. runners and an extra challenge for anyone wanting to see what the Wednesday Power Runs are all about.
No sign up, no fee - just lace up your shoes, put on a smile and be there! Spread the word!

Hi Runners!

The Monday Evening Road Run was off to a great start - if you missed the first one, you can join us any Monday at 7pm. Call Darryl for details! 905-722-6003

Saturday's run was awesome once again - the forest is drying up nicely and the morning temperatures are 'Running Perfect'. It may be time to start carrying a little spray, however, as the 'Motivators' will be joining us shortly. We're still trying to work out something to better mark the trails, so in the mean time, continue to run with a partner and stay in sight of someone who knows the way. Mind you, getting turned around in the forest isn't such a bad thing, is it? Explore. Enjoy the scenery. Find a new favorite track. Add a 'surprise package' to your regular route.

Darryl and I were at Kennedy Forest the other day, planning the route for the 3BEARS. We're really excited about the run and are sure that you all are going to enjoy it immensely. It's a perfect balance of scenery, challenge, single track and wide track. Ups and Downs; field and forest; logs, winders and straights. On top of the ridge, down into the gorge, through reforestation and through misty hollows....and just wait til you see the 3 Bears...
This is not a 'members only run' - it's open to anyone and everyone who wants to join us. It's a fun prep run for the 5Peaks series, a nice change of scenery for our reg. runners and an extra challenge for anyone wanting to see what the Wednesday Power Runs are all about.
No sign up, no fee - just tie up your shoes and be there.

SATURDAY MAY 28TH

Held at the Kennedy Forest, it will be in place of our regular Saturday club run at Ravenshoe.

April 27-2005

Hi Runners!

Thanks to everyone for a great GRC SPRING RUN OFF! It was a wonderful turn out, yummy food and lots of fun...and we didn't loose anybody on the trails this time!
A big THANKS to : Darryl for bringing the trailer and the BBQ - and being the official pancake flipper; Karen for providing the delicious fruit trays; Lorinda and Wendy for hot drinks, Tammy for the bagels; Charmaine for her apple-spice cake and Rob for the pancake batter, coffee and all the other trimmimgs!
Welcome to all the newcomers - it sure was great to have you and we hope you'll run with us regularly!

Unfortunately, after our fun event, the 'crazy lady' was back in the forest and proceeded to tear down our GRC trail signs, leaving them to litter the forest floor. Last Saturday, due to the Saboteur , the tails were hard to follow - so we apologize to anyone who was frustrated or had their run cut short because they were unsure of where they were going. We are currently in the process of resolving this matter and will hopefully have the trails marked again soon! In the meantime, run with a partner and we'll watch for any stragglers!

Anyone interested in the Wednesday Power Run that's at 12:30pm (until after the May long weekend), please give Darryl or I a call if you're planning to show up. So far it's just been the two of us, so we've been adjusting according to personal schedules. If you're planning to be there - just let us know by noon so we don't miss you!

Our official first GRC race/run in the 5Peaks series will be June 11th at Rattlesnake Point. The first race, on May 21st, is a conflict for many of our runners as it is also the May long-weekend. Some of our runners may be going, so if you've registered and plan to race that weekend, let us know.
We will be running a mock 5Peaks course on May 28 at the Kennedy Forest in place of our regular Saturday club run at Ravenshoe. This will be a fun prep run for the series, a nice change of scenery for our reg. runners and an extra challenge for anyone wanting to see what the Wednesday Power Runs are all about. Watch for the next news bulletin and the GRC's First Annual '3BEARS'

MONDAY EVENING ROAD RUN starts next Monday (MAY 2nd). 7:00pm, WILLOW GREENS. Call Darryl to sign up - 905-722-6003.

Have a great week. See you Saturday at 8am! Rain or Shine!

BE CHALLENGED. ENJOY THE RUN.

April 13-2005

Hi Runners!

Put on your good socks - this Saturday is our GRC SPRING RUN OFF!

Remember it starts at 8:00am

and there's breakfast to follow! We'd like to take a group picture before we hit the trails, so don't be late!

The trails will be marked so bring your families. They can enjoy a walk or a hike while the runners run. Got bikers? Bring them too - as you know, the Ravenshoe trails are great for mountain biking!

Looking for a change of scenery?
Darryl and I are very excited about the trails we've been exploring on Wednesdays at Kennedy Forest. Today was another awesome day - you can run forever and never have to back track. Not totally in to the hills? Don't worry - there's lots of great wide track that makes for enjoyable group runs and is much easier terrain. Want a challenge? - head off into one of the many single track trails that will take you up and down and all around the moraine. It's an incredible view and provides tons of exciting running.
Due to the wonderful sandy soil of the York Regional Forests, the trails have been drying up beautifully, and there's only a few patches of snow still lingering here and there.
We'll be marking some routes in there in the next little while, so if you can't join us on Wednesdays, just go when you can and follow the GRC trail signs. We'll let you know when they're posted.

2005 T-SHIRT UPDATE
The Running Room has sent notice that their policy has just changed , so they will provide us with the t-shirts, but not do the printing. We've found someone local who will do them for us so hopefully we'll get that all organized this week.
This is the last call if you'd like to order or still need to pay. To date we have 25 orders!
NOTE: If you haven't paid by Saturday's run - your t-shirt will not be ordered.

April 4-2005 / Hi Runners!

IT'S TIME FOR OUR GRC SPRING RUN-OFF!!

We have had a super winter season - great turns outs and great trail conditions. One of the highlights was the GRC Santa Run which you'll be able to see pictures of on our new web page which will be launching very soon!
Some of you have taken the winter off - you've been missed but fear not, the sun is out, the weather is warm (except of course, for winter's last jab this past weekend!), the company is great, and the run is motivating.
Don't put it off any longer. Take your runners from the closet, dust them off and tell them how much you have missed their feel on your feet.

SATURDAY APRIL 16TH
8:00am

AND...
breakfast in the parking lot after the run!

We'll have new runners and old runners; fast runners and slow runners; far runners and around the block runners; so none of you have to feel like you'll be running or plodding along on your own. Bring your families, friends and dogs to enjoy a hike and join us for the breakfast.
What a great way to get back into a routine and start off the spring...don't you think?!
I really look forward to seeing you all again in your running gear!

GRC JACK RABBITS: the shirts have been ordered and the early bird registration for the 5Peaks is almost over - so get to the web page and register!
First race is May 21st.
I've got sample shirts so you can try them on this Saturday to confirm the sizes you ordered. They're doing the screen and will wait with the print until I confirm. So make sure you come out!
